JCB enters CCTV market

6 November 2009

JCB has entered the construction site security market with the introduction of its mobile CCTV Tower. Built in partnership with specialist supplier, Camwatch, the fully integrated rapid -deployment machine uses heat and movement sensors to detect intruders. Video footage is transmitted live via a 3G wireless network to a central control room.

JCB enters CCTV marketWith a transport weight of 290kg, the CCTV Tower offers a 7m working height, providing a 100m radius of coverage during the day and up to 60m at night without the need for additional illumination. The unit runs on a 110V power supply from mains electricity or on-site generators, and it has an inbuilt public address system, enabling operators to issue verbal warnings.

The product is initially available through JCB in co-operation with Camwatch, and through hire organisations, including Speedy. There are also plans to incorporate sensors on the machine to detect smoke or gas leaks and to issue automatic alarms to enhance on-site Health & Safety.

JCB formally launched the CCTV Tower at the recent CITS (Construction Industry Theft Solutions) Conference on plant security, which the company hosted at its Rocester headquarters. A full report on the event will appear in a future issue of EHN.
