Bobcat loader solves reservoir challenge

9 October 2009

The low ground pressure qualities of Bobcat’s recently introduced T110 compact tracked loader provided a solution for work involved in constructing a £3m service reservoir for South East Water at Cranbrook. Hired from Versatile Equipment Ltd of Borough Green, it was used by Dean & Dyball Civil Engineering, a division of Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering. Bobcat's T110 compact tracked loader

Constructed of reinforced concrete with internal columns, the 10 million-litre reservoir has been built partially below ground level and is surrounded by grassed embankments to minimise its visual impact. The project required that the roof of the reservoir be grassed over and the land restored to its original condition on completion of the project.

To work on the roof, Dean & Dyball had to take into account strict weight restrictions. Exerting a ground pressure considerably less than an average adult, the rubber tracked T110 proved ideal for spreading earth on the reservoir roof prior to landscaping the area.

The November issue of EHN will include a Market Report covering the latest products and developments in the Compact Plant market.
